What are 1.06 fan temp settings?
« on: January 31, 2009, 01:28:39 PM »

What are the ranges of fan speed on on DNS-323 FW 1.06.  I have a system that is at 44C after a lot of heavy work (disk to disk copy) and as far as I can tell, the fan is not on.  If I have the specs for 1.06 fan speed and temperature, they are:

43(OFF), 46(LOW,4050rpm), 49(HIGH,6390rpm).

I would assume this to mean:
the fan is off at 43C and below
the fan is on low if the temperature is above 43 and less than 46C
the fan is on medium if the temperature is above 46 and less than 49C
At 49C and above, the fan is on high.

Can you confirm over what temperature range the fan is on and at what speed.

For the most part, my unit with 2 seagate 750 gig drives runs anywhere from 43-45C. Only once in a while do I hear it come on and then its only for a second or so, never constant.

I have two WD 1T green drives and the normal operating temperature is 39C.  I just did a 5 hour disk to disk copy from drive1 to drive2, which drove up the temperature.

I would prefer to be able to adjust the fan speed trigger at a temperature that is 1-2C lower.   If the chassis is very warm to my hand, it is too hot.  The hotter the temperature, the poorer the reliability of the drive.

I am curious as well, mine has been at 44 for hours and feels very warm but the fan has not gone on yet.
