FTP/WebDrive issues
« on: January 04, 2012, 07:58:19 AM »

Hi,

I am using the 2.02 firmware and I can connect quite fine via FTP to the DNS-320 using DynDNS. Unfortunately I seem to get a "553 Users may not upload files" on SOME folders. Uploading to other folders works. I have no idea why this is since the User has read/write access to Volume_1 and there is nothing more that I can setup there.
I am using WebDrive to map the DNS-320 at work to my home-computer and here the same issue applies. I way only able to connect WebDrive via FTP. WebDAV never worked for me. Neither with WebDrive nor with Win7 WebDAV functionality. Is this still screwed up in the 2.02 firmware?

Hi Kalle,
I am not sure "webdrive" is that common of a software at least in this forum.  There have been reported problems with various backup softwares not working with the 320 though, which makes me wonder if the problem you are having might have something to do with your "webdrive".  If that is possible, you could try to see if there are any options or settings to adjust in "webdrive", of if this route fails, experiment a bit and try using another ftp option of which there are several.  I would try just using IE or FireFTP if you are using Firefox.  If your client then works, you will then have a workable tool which is not difficult to use for your tasks.  Good luck

Hi Cable2,

thanks for your relpy. Unfortunately I need the NAS mounted as a drive on the computer I am trying to access it from. A simple FTP client won't be enough. Though I tested the upload functionality to the folders that are making problems and it doesn't work either.

Another issue is the external IP that is transferred by the NAS when using passive mode. Since the external IP changes every 24 hours and the NAS doesn't recognize it, it tells the FTP client the wrong IP. So I have to access it via the web interface and make it get the current IP, save it and then the FTP access works.

I am accessing it by using DynDNS and the request is routed to the NAS by the modem/router. When using the DynDNS functionality of the NAS it only tells the internal IP to DynDNS, so that functionality seems to be screwed up too.
I am not too happy with it right now :-(

I am trying to create a VPN to my companies network now and hopefully this will work and I will be able to access the drive that way. Does anyone have any experience with that?

Can it be that I have/can give read/write access but no overwrite rights when accessing the NAS via FTP?
What I just observed: I was working on a file, saved it and tried to upload it to the same location I got it from on the NAS. The upload didn't work giving me the 553 error.
When I delete the file that I have modified and upload it, it works.
