One of the persons involved in a home network has installed a Dlink DIR-825 Rev-B Extreme router on the Comcast cable system to allow a 'better' wireless signal on upper floors of the home. Two others involved in the same home network use a 'secure desktop access' software called NetOp to access the network remotely.  To facilitate this software, we must 'port forward' port 6502 on BOTH UDP and TCP to the single system that is accessed.  However, we are having great difficulty in getting this functional - so I'm the 'nerd' who has been asked to 'help' with this setup and my 'normal' means of accomplishing this setup (simple port forwarding) does not seem to work - neither does 'virtual server', for that matter.  Prior to this router being installed, it was extremely simple to accomplish this remote access using a Linksys router, so our software firewall configuration has not changed but the new Dlink seems unable to allow remote access.
So my question: can someone tell me "step-by-step" exactly HOW (and via which of these access methods - port forwarding or virtual server) would be best? This configuration seems frustratingly difficult to accomplish and I'm about to take the Dlink 'out' of the network and re-install the Linksys with a 'high-gain' external antenna to facilitate simple signal enhancement.  But I WOULD like to know what the h*** I'm doing 'wrong' with the Dlink....

I had set up Filezilla last year using both Virtual Server and PF I believe. I haven't dealt with it in a while and don't use it much so I can't remember off hand right now. I'll reload my config on my 825 and have a look at what I did after work today. In mean time you might try using QoS as a test and set Local IP address FROM and TO to the PC IP address your trying access, Protocol to ANY, Ports FROM and TO set to the 6502. Romote IP address FROM and TO leave as default. Priority 8. Save settings.

Also you need to do the following:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Out of total frustration with the Dlink, we removed it from the network and installed a new Linksys WRT54GL router and had it fully configured and operational in under 5 minutes. The person who installed the Dlink has been told by his parents to take it with him back to school this next week ...
