DIR-645 Schedule problem - WiFi control
« on: January 18, 2012, 03:14:37 PM »

Hi - I'm not sure if I have a faulty router or maybe it's just a firmware bug?

I use a schedule to enable the WiFi between 7.00am and 2.00am - the router is next to a sleeping area and I prefer not to be "bathed" in 2.4Ghz all night (I also go to bed pretty late!).  Problem is you can't rely on the WiFi turning on each morning at 7.00am - mostly it does but also quite frequently it either does not turn on at all or sometimes all appears normal, i.e. WiFi LED is on and SSID being broadcast, BUT nothing will connect?  A power cycle always brings it back to normal.

Anyone else had similar problems - or should I get it changed out?

What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I am having similar problems. Mine isn't scheduled to turn off but after it sits over night I have to reboot the router to get the connection back up. I have checked settings and cant find any reason for the problem. Fuzzy has been helping with my issue Hope he can get yours going for you. Good luck.

Did any of the suggestions help you Tech? Might have a review with you and our router using teamviewer.com sometime.

I thought it was OK but it dropped again. Got me... I haven't had this issue with a router before. I may have you use team-viewer before I return it.

Hi, thanks for the replies and suggestions - set up is as follows:-

Firmware 1.01

Stand alone modem - Draytek Vigor 100 - purely a modem providing PPoE to the DIR-645
(I was using a BT HH2 until recently but got fed up with the poor wireless performance and frustrated with the limited settings available so blew the dust of the Vigor and bought the DIR-645)

The DNS IPs are NOT being carried across to the "setup/internet/manual" page but they are, obviously, all in the Status page - I have dynamic IP from BT - unfortunately!

All the other items under "things to try" were in place, as suggested, with the exception of "advanced DNS services" which is not available.

Wireless modes N & G mixed
Security WPA-Personal - auto
Wireless devices - My wifes PC, Android Tablet and Android smartphone - normally none of these would be operating when the WiFi schedule should turn back on at 7.00am - I usually turn the WiFi OFF on the portable devices when they are in standby - saves the battery life!
We have a Panasonic cordless phone system - the base unit is downstairs and well away from the DIR-645 (which is upstairs in my office)
I have turned off the "Short GI" setting.

SO I will try it with the slightly modified settings and see what happens, thanks.

To answer my own post - I think this will have to go back - Router powered up WiFi this morning - all front LEDs lit as normal (except WPS)

Problem is NO WiFI and today no Wired connection!

WiFi not actually working - scanned with my Android tablet and WiFi analyzer - zero signal

No Internet connection to PC or Netbook - managed to get into DIR645 configuration and it had some weird IP address (forgot to write it all down but was something like 169.254.x.x) - was assigning DCHP in this range to the PC & Netbook?

Starting to regret the purchase now - I get brilliant WiFi connection speeds with the DIR-645 but, once set up, a router should just sit there and work reliably - not much good if it keeps falling over!

I would return the unit for another or a different model. Sorry you couldn't get it working well. Let us know what you get. Please try another DLink router.

I have decided to give it a try and manually switch it off (with the front power button) last thing and then on again in the morning - will see what happens for a few days.

I have a suspicion that it may be just a firmware bug with the "schedule" routine so I will hopefully find out?

I wish there was a toggle in the settings so you could use the WPS button as either WPS OR WiFi ON/OFF
