(Here it is again) I have a Dir-825 router. The 5GHz is turned off and the wirless is on G/N. I have shawcable for my isp and my firmware is 2.06 and its a Rev B Router. I also have Qos Engine on for allowing me to have 2 xboxes on Open NAT. So basically the problem is my wireless signal for some wierd reason is VERY weak. A while ago it used to work really far way outside. It was around 150ft distance at 4 bars. Now for some reason I can't even go upstairs without getting a 1 or 2 bar signal which is in no comparison to before. So... What can I do and how can I fix this?

I have tried changing wireless channels like suggested before and it didn't work. I've also installed inSSIDer and I think that there were no wireless channels in range affecting my router.( Probably because my router has low range now)

What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Other factors can contribute to low signal and bad router wifi, such as external interferences and other wifi routers and or radio frequencies working on the same frequency.

I would do a factory reset of the router and set it up from scratch and see if anything comes back. I would turn off ALL wifi devices accept for one that you an test with. Need to see if you have any near by WiFi.

We use our phones and on occasion myxbox for wifi upstairs. We don't have any permanent wirless devices connected to our router. Also I'm gonna try tomorrow when I get back from school the factory reset thing and see if that works.

I would factory reset the router then manually set it up from scratch.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel. Set up QoS later for XBL. Use the Gaming sticky for XBL in the forum.

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I reset the the router to factory settings and tried my wireless upstairs in the living room and the same thing happened. So I guess I will have to leave it unless my old router a DIR-655 is better than a DIR-825?

A single band router will always have better range then a dual band if they share antennas. The Diplexer required to split the 2.4/5ghz signal from the antennas to the radios has loss in it. You could get one of those routers with 6 antennas on it if you need dual band and long range. My opinion, the Dir-825 supports IPV6 out of the box, unless they have changed, my old Dir-655 did not. But on the other hand my Dir-655 had way more range then the Dir-825.

Putting 102Mbps(internet speed) through my 825 daily on a gigabit backbone, I use IPV6 daily(Facebook) and stream multiple Xbox's daily while video chatting and 1080P streaming to the big screen on a regular basis. I did not test the Dir-655 past no IPV6 connectivity (A4 version). The Dir-825 is perfect for me until they all do native IPV6 and 5Ghz. At this point in time I would not invest in a router that does not do IPV6, but then again my last router lasted 6 years.

Another option, if you still have your old 655 routers, put them to good use. Turn them into APs. It works. I would be careful in wifi congested areas though. If your not in this area, then having additional APs will work well. I have 4 coming off my host router. 2 broadcasting 5Ghz and 2 doing 2.4Ghz along with the host router. Each frequency using the same SSID and PW, just different channels. My 2 cents.
