killed my dir-615 router?!
« on: January 26, 2012, 02:46:46 PM »

I'm trying to get my wife's Nook Color tablet to connect to the wi-fi here at the house. The nook sees the network, but it can't "get in" even by entering the password.

I was diddling around on the router web page  (198.yada.yada) and did something on the MAC address page and boom! Can't get to the router web page anymore. Tried just reinstalling the router but it said it needed to be reset so I tried pushing the reset button on the back and then reinstalling but still nothing. It got to step two where you put the ethernet cable into the router but after grinding away for a while, it said it couldn't detect it. So I'm bypassing the router to cry for help.

So I guess I need help on two fronts: 1) Can I restore my router? 2) If I get it restored, what do I need to do to get the Nook connected (I know it's not the Nook, because we've connected it to a friend's network and several other places with wi-fi).

Thanks.

Need to factory reset the router.
Then reconfigure the router with out any Mac filtering.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Try is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK Only.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Thanks. I'll give this a try.

I pushed the reset button yesterday before coming to the forum for help but it didn't seem to do anything. I'll give it another try over the weekend.

Thanks again.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.
