Hi ,

My dlna don't find the file on my hard-drive(seagate freeagent goflex 1TB) who is connect in my router usb port.
media server and upnp function are enable
I can access all the file on my hardrive with the share port function. but when i use dlna in windows media player the Dir827 media server is found but no file are found same thing when i access the dlna server with my TV.
any solution on how i can force my router to scan my hardrive and indexing my file(avi, mp3)

and i found a solution i have to turn off and back on the router (without disconnecting the hard drive)each time i add file to my hard-drive to force him to scan my hard-drive, do you know any solution to indexing the file on my hard-drive without turning off the router

It looks like to force a index refresh you must power the unit off and back on or remove the USB device and reconnect it.

Here are my findings with the DLNA server on my network.  I have a USB 3.0 3T desktop drive plugged into the usb port on 827 router.  I installed shareport and can see the drive just fine on any of my machines.  However the DLNA server only refreshes its share list, when changed, when the USB drive is either unplugged via power or USB connector, very inconvinient for me.  Also it seems if you put a MKV file on the drive and reset, it will only refresh your list till it hits the MKV file and stops not showing the rest of your files/media (pulled some hair out till i figured that lil glitch), remove the offending file and reset and the media list comes back.  Lastly I found if you create a folder with shareport and copy media to the folder via shareport and reset, then scan with DNLA client you will not be able to see the new media folder/files.  The only way to see the folder and Media is to directly copy the folder/files from my desktops USB port to the drive then plug it back into router and then the new folder and media can be scanned by my DLNA clients.  Lastly Lastly is when resetting/rescanning the media drive it changes its folder name, STORAGE(A1) to STORAGE(B2) forcing me to remap the drive on each of my network machines, a bit inconvienient as well.

tested with:  WD Live player, VLC player, IPone DLNA client.  I also use 2 - 2T Iomega DLNA network drives that work flawlessly on my network.  May I suggest a "rescan DLNA content" button in the 827's GUI  like my iomega drives.

Will forward this to DLink and see if we can get some information on this. I don't use DLNA as I've already got a Server PC online for my storage and files.


Some things to try:
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

I wish you good luck i passed 3 hours on the phone today with them explaining them what was going on with the router, what was DLNA, what was a DLNA server and client to finally being told by tech support that the router was not the problem that I should check somewhere else. 

I'm experiencing the same thing I have a 2T external WD drive connected to a Dir-827.  I see 2 directories out of 4.  I see sometime my music directories? I rebooted then gained some directories, rebooted then lost some more.

Might ask for Level 2 support.

Right now D-Link is putting in alot of effort into FW to stop the WPS vulnerability so any other development is low priority right now until thats resolved.

It appears that the DLNA media server built in this router is actually just a marketing gimmick, and in reality it doesn't work 90% of the time.
I think I found a solution though, it's called Linksys E4200.
