I just purchased Dlink DNS 320 NAS. It came with FW 2.00. I connected to my network gateway and it could be managed by WebGUI. I could find it in network (Orignally as dlink-xxxx, then I could change it to the name I want).  Everything looks good till that time.

Then I upgraded to FW 2.02 successfully. It could still managed by the WebGUI. But I could not find it on my network. I have tried 3 PC (Win7 Home 64, Win XP Home and Win XP professional). I have also tried something (such as disable my firewall,  enable the NetBIOS over TCP/IP, etc) but still not helpful.
Even worse, I could not downgrade to FW 2.00.

I found something interesting when I use a freeware called Network Scanner. I found my NAS IP does not have hostname even I changed workgroup/name back and forth (in Device setting under System Management) in WebGUI.

Currently I do not have hard drive for it (because I plan to put in 2X3TB hard drives but now hard drive is too expensive). I just inserted a USB memory stick to test the NAS. I found that I could not use \\192.168.0.32 (My NAS IP) to access the files in my memory stick. I am not sure that might be another issue with USB function, or could be the same map network drive issue.

Could someone do me a favor to insert USB memory stick and tell me whether you are able to see the files in that memory stick? If yes, what is the network path? it should be \\(your NAS IP)\(folder name), or \\(your NAS IP)/(folder name)???

You did not mention whether you're using static or dynamic IP address setting on your NAS.

If you're able to access the NAS using UNC (ie. \\<IP> or <computer>) by typing the IP address or computer name then your NAS is configured correctly.

As for the USB memory stick, is it detectable from the webUI? If yes, then it should appear as a Shared Folder when browsing from UNC.

The issue was solved. There was nothing wrong with the FW and my configuration. The key is Hard disk. You have to insert a hard disk and make a volume. Otherwise, you could not see/map the network drive. :o

Correct. The network maps are linked to the HDD Volumes, not the DNS-320 device/hardware.

Hi all,
sorry to awake a solved post but I have a problem very similar using USB hard disk; my problem is i just received my DNS from Amazon and treied to use a usb hd without any internal disk (internal to NAS of course...); well, at the beginning everything was perfect even without any disk inside...then trying to copy a MKV I've received a deny due to lack of permission (later on I did realize usb hd with ntfs is read only...but this is another story...); trying to fix somehow this issue playing with permissions and rights etc etc my DNS 320 suddenly disappeared from MY network and no way to get it back!!! what went wrong? tried also the brand new installation with the factory reset but nothing changed...my dns 320 still missing from my network...furthermore I can access the dlink from the 192.168.0.32 and I can see my usb disk correctly recognized...I'm really pissed off with this issue!
some suggestions?
tia for your help..
