645 setup connection issues with ADSL modem/router
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:53:33 PM »

I've looked through this forum on the DIR-645 hoping to find out why I cannot connect to the internet, but to no avail.  I'll list all the information I have and what I've done and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

I am replacing a DIR-655 with the 645 to hopefully resolve disconnect issues I am having with a blue ray player on the other side of the house.

The 645 is being plugged in to a Zhone 6219-X1 ADSL2+ 4 port router.  I have tried installing using the CD and also directly through the web page setup.  I have looked through the forums and tried some of the suggestions listed for similar problems.

What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
Upgraded to 1.01
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?Has built in router
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?See above
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.I read somewhere the modem comes preconfigured bridged, but can't seem to find it now that I'm looking for that piece of information again

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section. The 645 is connecting to the modem and getting all of this information in the status section
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.Done
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.Do not have this option
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.Done
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Done - Cannot get internet through wired or wireless connection
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.Done
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.Done

My DIR-655 was working just fine with this modem but I am drawing a blank as to why I have not been able to get this new router working.  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Need to ask your ISP about verifying that the ISP modem is bridged. Then if your ISP uses PPPoE, you need you have the PPPoE account information and input that into the 645 Setup/Internet/Manual/Connection Type settings. Make sure the ALWAYS ON is selected.
