Router Help...
« on: April 16, 2013, 04:43:48 PM »

Hello, I'm experiencing some problems with my internet.  I don't know if its the router or if it's the internet speed. I'm able to run my Iphone through Appletv in one room, play a video game on the ps3 network in a different room and even surf the web on a computer.  But once my spouse turns on her new Acer Aspire V5-571P (with windows 8) and tries to connect to the internet, everything fails and disconnects from the internet. After all the devices are disconnected, I struggle with connecting to internet on her computer.
Most of the time i have to run a quick diagnostic before I am to connect to the internet while the other devices remain disconnected.   I'm not sure its a setting on the router or what.  The firmware has recently been updated too.  Please help if have any suggestions.

Thanks! ??? ??? ???

Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed before and after the FW update and set up from scratch?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Link>Checking MTU Values

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Router and PC, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Ensure the drivers for the network adapter are up to date?

Hello Fuzzy

I was able to make the majority of changes you recommended and boy can I see the improvements already!!! I was able to use my spouse's computer while streaming on the appletv.  Normally Appletv disconnects once i try to connect to the network and her computer connected flawlessly to the network.

My WAN Port Speed was set to Auto.

I couldn't find "Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced."
Is Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules "Enable UPnP IGD?"

My ISP Service provider is Comcast Cable 20mbps and ISP Modem is a Motorola SB5101U.

Thanks for helping thus far...

Is Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules "Enable UPnP IGD?" Yes however leave it enabled for now as it should be enabled. WISH and WPS should be under Advanced however WISH might not be an option on the 645. WPS is Wireless Protection System?

When you get the router completly set up to your needs, do a Save Configuration to File. So you have this saved for any future needs.

Glads it's working better for you. Enjoy
