Hi all,

D-Link 655, Hardware Version: A3, Firmware Version: 1.34NA

Wireless N+G mixed mode, channel 13, 100% signal strength.

All devices (Laptop, NAS, Phone, Tablet, HD Player) are connectted as Wireless-N (not G).
 
The problem is, after wireless connectivity is establieshed from Win7, transferring files from laptop (Win7) to NAS or tablet could have ~10MB/s, one day later, same file but speed dropped to 5MB/s, 2 days later 2 MB/s..... after one week, I can only have 400KB/s... :-(
 
Then in Win7, disconnect wireless, reconnect it again immediately, speed is back, then drop again day after day...
 
But I don't have any problem accessing from one device to others (eg, from WD Live TV to NAS, 720p vido playback via wireless is very smooth, no laggy at all), I don't have problem too when accessing Internet from Win7, only transferring files between Win7 to other devices is getting slower and slower...
 
Does that sound like a Router's problem or Win7's problem?

Shall I upgrade to firware 2.0?

Am I able to load FW 2.07 on A3?

Nope, the 2.xx firmwares are for the B hardware models.

If all your devices are N, switch wireless mode to N only and see what happens.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

WPA2/WPA auto and TKIP/AE auto, but since all devices connect as N, dont think WPA and TKIP have chance to be triggered.
ShortGI is on else I ony have max 270Mbps, but tried shortGI off before, same problem.
No 3rd party anti virus ad firewall software, only Win7 builtin ones (windows firewall and MSE)


Now the only thing I can try is to change to N only, AES only, and turned off "Extra Wireless Protection", let's see if this helps.

If the same thing after that, I might upgrade to v1.35 and see. If you do, please review the FW update Sticky in this forum.

is there a FW 1.35 for A3? i quickly browsed thru this forum but didn't find it, where can i get this FW?

after changed to N only and disabled "Extra Wireless Protection", i noticed that the wireless link speed is now dynamically changes between 130Mbps - 300Mbps (from Task Manager/Networking tab), while I remember in previous configuration (mixed N+G, enabled "Extra Wireless Protection"), it stayed at 300Mbps at all time even networking is idle. Not sure how it is related...

The highest version your router should have is v1.30.

I would contact DLink support office for your region and confirm the latest version of FW for A3.

after 3 days, speed dropped from 10MB/s to 3.5MB/s... reconnect Win7 wifi, speed is immediately back.

so same problem, N only and disabled Extra Wireless Protection don't help...

Are there any additional settings with in the Intel wireless that you can configure or tweek? I've seen some that have there own QoS or other settings.

I don't have any Intel at my place or I'd check for you. Are you testing download from an external site or internal LAN wired PC?

nothing special on the build-in intel wireless adapter, the only QoS related setting is WMM, which must be enabled for N network.

the problem only happens between laptop and devices via same wireless network, i don't have this problem and don't need to re-connect win7 wifi when i download from external sites.
