Hard drive syncing forever!
« on: April 15, 2015, 12:59:50 PM »

Hi all,

Picked up one of these last week and installed 2x 2tb discs, installed one with data on it and then added a second hdd and installed it using the second hdd install process.

Now it's installed as raid 1 the hard drives are trying to sync the data between the pre loaded disc and the blank one, the problem is it takes hours and hours and the browser is logging me out. When I go back a few hours later the sync has never passed 4% and each day it proceeds to start the sync process all over again.

One disc is a few months old and worked perfectly when installed and I can still access data on it so I do not think this is an issue and the second disc is brand new.

Both are WD Enterprise 7200rpm discs.

Any ideas why it does not seem able to sync without me staying at my PC for the entire 20hrs to constantly keep myself logged in?

Thank you in advance

The disk you installed that had data on it where did it come from and what is the format?  If it was a windows formatted drive you will be trying to sync the drives for ever because the DNS-320 does not use any windows format.

If you want a RAID 1 setup you have to initially format both drives in the unit as RAID 1.  After this is done if one disk fails you can then replace the failed drive and the RAID array will be rebuilt.
