Installing Printer Crashes Win 7 (x64)
« on: March 25, 2012, 06:51:07 PM »

I just purchased a a 657 router today.  My previous router bit the biscuit.  I chose the 657 for the ability to connect my printer Cannon MP530.

I was able to connect and print on the following systems using Shareport Plus v1.0.0 with no issues:
Win XP Pro (x86) wired Shareport Plus v1.0
MacBook Pro (10.6.8) wireless

The system giving me issues is a Samsung laptop running Win 7 Home Premium (x64).  Shareport will see the printer, and connects to the printer, however I cannot print.  When I go into the properties and try to setup Auto Enable shareport starts looking for the printer drivers.  Sometimes it detects the printer and starts installing the drivers then part way through the computer crashes and I get the blue screen of death!  When I have shareport running, the printer will show up in the Printer/Devices in the control panel but the driver is not detected.  When I install the driver it gets part way through, then you guessed it THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

I have installed the printer directly to the laptop with no issues and printed.  I have turned off Windows Firewall, Norton firewall and anti-virus.  No luck.  I have downloaded Shareport several times, I have used the copy on the cd, still no luck.  I have tried older printer drivers, still no luck.

The only way I have been able to get the printer to print from the laptop is by setting up printer sharing on my XP machine and connect through the network.  Although this works, it is not a permanent solution as that computer gets locked (keep the kids off).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try rebooting 7 by disabling the Driver Enforcement using F8.
Might also try SP v4 on the DIR-827 site.

Thanks Fury,

Unfortunately still no luck.

There seems to be some sort of conflict or glitch when the printer driver in installed when the printer is connected through SP.  I have had no problem installing the printer directly on the laptop or over the network by sharing through my XP computer.  So I am stumped.

So for the time being I will continue to share the printer on the XP machine and connect that way.

One other solution would be to get you a USB 2 LAN adapter and connect that way.  ;)

Sounds like it is installing a printer driver for XP...rather than Win 7 driver....

If you plug the USB into your PC, it should install the driver properly....

If the driver is good, and your USB sub-system in windows is ok, you shouldn't see any BSOD....
