Organize Video Files

Is there any way to organize video files i.e. either alphabetically or by date? Can they be tagged and organized by genres? I have a large number of videos and the DSM-520 displays them in a random order which makes them very hard through browse through. Do any of you face this problem as well?

Actually...it isn't random.  The order is generated by the date the file was created if you are using the D-Link media software.  Not sure if there is a way to change the sort order.  I suspect it could be an issue if there is a large number of files.

I store my videos on a DNS-321 network storage enclosure with two 1Tb drives. The files show up alphabetical.

Your statement brings up a question for pvohra...where are you storing the files? 

Creating different folders for each genre may be helpful.  I'm not sure what could be done about the sorting order.

Using the D-Link Media server there are no options to change the file display order. However I have requested a new Media server version and to provide this feature as I believe it is definitely something it should have also and I have tried many other media servers and they never seem to have this feature and it is quite annoying.

Sorry for the delay on the response.

In regards to how & where I store the files, here it is... On one hard drive I have nothing but video related files. They are in folder such as "Movies AVI", "Movies TS", "TV Shows" (With sub-directories of each program and a sub-directory for each season).
On the other hard drive I store music in a similar fashion. With folders named "Albums", "Soundtracks", "Classical" etc...
On both hard drives (1TB each), and using the DNS-321 the files shows up on my DSM-520 in alphabetical order.

IF you are accessing the files through the USB Port on the DSM-520 I have noticed that files are not shown alphabetical in order.

Just a side note: Having a massive amount of albums is really time consuming to go to the one you want. Sometimes, when there is other traffic on the network, the media player locks up when changing pages while looking at the large directory.
