I'm wondering if there is an issue with DDNS service themselves.  ::)

No, with all due respect, Furry is wrong.
While the DLINK router is disconnected, other routers (3Com) remain connected to the same service.
Also when the DLINK router is power cycled it becomes connected.
The problem is within the router's software.

I would contact DLink and DDNS to see.
