Test E-Mail loops

Trying to setup Email notifications.  Test E-mail just does its circle thing and never stops.  Installed latest firmware, no change.  I am a Verizon FIOS customer.  Correct userid and password are set, I am using port 465 (tried 25 also), outgoing.verizon.net, sender e-mail and receiver e-mail are my email addresses, SMTP authorization is set.  I think I have port 80 open for DDNS, but am not sure. Any ideas why test e-mail does not complete?
