FW 2.30NA
« on: May 17, 2012, 12:10:38 PM »

I'm still using 2.00NA.

It seems that whenever I connect to a particular www3 webpage, my modem and router end up rebooting shortly thereafter.  This has happened a few times.  The modem's log shows in this order

1. No Ranging Response received

2. Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response

3. MIMO Event

I've tried to figure this out.  My search on the MIMO event revealed one post about IPv4 and IPv6.  This indicates to me that I should probably be upgrading the firmware and configuring its use for IPv6 compatibility.

If I upgrade to FW 2.30NA, how should I configure the IPv6, i.e., which parameters should I use?

The reboots are frustrating.

Does your ISP and ISP modem support and provide IPv6 services?

If so, I presume that you can use the router to automatically configure IPv6 for you using the wizard.

Be ware that there isn't any IPv6 Firewall on this platform. There is a discussion going on regarding this on the 825 forum. This model router, 825 and 615 which support IPv6 do not include the IPv6 firewall which is now being included on the next gen routers. I don't know why DLink didn't include this on these models, and we might not ever know. I have pasted this on to DLink and will have to see if they provide firewall support for these routers or not.  :-\

My IPv6 headache has started again.

When I bought the router, the box was clearly labled IPv6 ready.

It's a good product provided D-Link continues its support of DIR-655.

The HD Media routers are probably the best choice but also the more costly choice.

I don't need a new router, I want this one supported since it's not that old.

I looked for the fireware emulator for the HD Media 3000 router and it's not available online.  I wanted to make sure the new line of the routers has a 20MHz channel width option for the 2.4GHz band.  The wider bandwidth mode on that band murders the small spectrum of the 2.4GHz band.  I just need basic connectivity which I use 20MHz (Max: 130Mbps) in place of the Auto 20/40Mhz option.  Using the inSSIDer software, I have analyzed what my router sees from neighboring networks.  The wide bandwidth (300Mbps) of the neightbor closest to me does cause some channel allocation problems especially with other neighbors and me.

Again I don't need a new router, I want my router to be well-supported.  It's a fine product, and my router is about 1 year old.  I can't afford too many expensive changes in my life.

Regards,

Mark.

All cuurent and next generation DLink routers provide the 20mhz bandwidth as a standard for wifi.

I've given it a lot of thought and weighed the options carefully.  I am to continue using my DIR-655 and enjoying from it.  It's an outstanding product.

I'll just wait for the next official firmware release for the product.  D-Link won't neglect the ever popular DIR-655 since its a general purpose workhorse in a lot of homes and even businesses.  It's still sold at OfficeMax, along with the DIR-825.

I don't need dual-band capability at this time.  Reliable IPv6 via reliable new firmware will be nice.

D-Link should somehow be encouraged to continue its support especially of the DIR-655 and of the DIR-825.

I just noticed that the v2.03NA emulator does have the IPv6 Firewall options listed so this should be a good thing for the 655. I do hope they add it to the DIR-825.  :-\
