DNS 320 crashed
« on: June 08, 2012, 12:56:09 PM »

DNS 320, 2 weeks old.  V2.02 Firmware.  Hitachi discs: 1TB (HDT721010SLA360) and 2TB (HDS722020ALA330) in Standard mode.  Used as network drives only,   1TB is UPnP Server.  No other features enabled.  Been working just fine.

DNS 320 then crashed.  Could not access discs as shared drives on a networked PC. Browser management was very intermittent if accessible at all.
I ended up pressing in the reset button.  The browser management came back to life, but it is now treating the discs as if they are new and require formatting.
Do I really have to reformat the discs and lose what is on them?

Whilst writing this, it has crashed again.  Left hand and center blue lights are on, and the right hand blue light is flashing away. No access via a browser.  Pressing reset brings browser management access back to life.

Any ideas or do I have a defective DNS 320?

  • While the DNS-320 is powered-up, press and hold the reset button on the rear of the unit for > 8 seconds
  • Next Reinstall the firmware and reboot.
  • If the HDDs are still not recognized, please see the following thread to recover critical data: DNS-320 - Data Recovery (Windows PC)
  • Reformat the HDDs in the DNS-320
  • Test the DNS-320 for stability

If the unit fails again after following these steps, then you can call D-Link and initiate the RMA process for a replacement.
