DAP-2553 sounds like an old fashion modem when powered via PoE.
« on: January 22, 2012, 03:26:02 PM »

I purchased a DAP-2553 back in 2009 (way out of warranty now).  About a year ago, we noticed that the AP began to continuously sound like an old fashion modem attempting to handshake with another modem.  The range of the AP did not seem to be diminished, but it was definitely noticeable and at the pitch, it carried quite far.

I called Support and they said to use the supplied power supply to see if it still made noise.  It did not (I assumed that my PoE injector was defective).  Now that my wife was "fed up" with the extension cord laying around, I purchased a new PoE Injector.  "Low and behold", the AP was noisy again (i.e. not the injector).  I replaced the AP with a new DAP-2553 and no noise when powered via PoE.

Question:
Has anyone else see this issue?  Any clues as to what might be causing the "hand shaking" noises?  I presume that some transformer windings have become loose and are vibrating (making the noise).  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thread revival  ;D

I'm wondering if the access point could have had bulging capacitors (if they come with any).  And the squealing was the sound of the AP not receiving enough power cause of that, and the power supply was giving the AP the power it needed, or vise versa.

If this is the case then usually one would contact DLink and get help on it. The only thing one could do is measure the out put of the Power adapter to make sure it was out putting the required voltages detailed on the adapter sticker. Anything after that, Dlink needs to be contacted and hopefully one could get it RMAd and fixed.  ;)
