Flash Drives and "hard stop" disconnects
« on: March 22, 2009, 10:22:41 AM »

Greetings!

I did a search on this issue and was surprised not to get a hit on the "hard stop" disconnect required to disconnect flash drives from the shareport utility.

I've tested this on both XP and Vista PC's and with a PNY Attache 1GB and Corsair Voyager 16GB flash drives. Even after using the safely disconnect hardware taskbar applet to disconnect the flash drive, disconnecting the drive in the shareport utility still requires a hard stop disconnect.

I assume that if I disconnect using the safely remove hardware applet I will at least avoid potential data loss or corruption that could otherwise occur with a hard stop? I'd be interested in what the manufacturers recommended disconnect procedure is and will the hard stop issue be addressed?

TIA

I have this same problem with my LaCie 1TB drive...it stays "in use" even after I have safely removed it, and no longer see it in 'my computer'....that's with win XP wired and win vista wireless N
