[Help] UPnP connectivity problem between Wired & Wireless
« on: June 24, 2012, 07:55:01 AM »

Hi

My Dlink DIR-655 is hardware ver B1 and firmware 2.00.  I found the UPnP cannot cross between wired and wireless network.  :-\  It is fine if both UPnP server and renderor are on either network.  There is no problem on other protocol, such as SAMBA from my notebook connected via Wireless to the QNAP NAS connected via Wired to the 655. ???

Checked its manual and forum there should be only 1 place to enable UPnP in DIR-655, and I have enabled it.

I 'm now streaming HD music files from the QNAP NAS Twonky Media server to Pioneer N-50 network media renderor (both connected wired), which plays to my HiFi stereo system.   What I want is to use my iPhone or Android mobile/tablet with installed UPnP controller app (e.g. Plugplay, UPnPlay, etc) as remote control.

I asked my friend he faces similar problem.  Does anyone find it works on their DIR-655?  Much appreciated if someone may help to resolve this problem!  Thanks in advanced.  ;D

regards

Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?

Hi FurryNuts

I did all per your suggested, but it is still the same..
It appears once my wireless Android finds the wired QNAP UPnP server, but just a while it disappears.

I would make sure the QNAP server is configured correctly and that the Android is set up correctly to navigate to the server.

What region are you located?

Hi

After I replied you last night, suddenly my Android was able to access to the QNAP Twonky, and control music streaming from QNAP to my Pioneer N50, after a few restart of the DIR-655.   It has been working perfectly for about 2 hours, but then it does not work again now...... During the few hours, nothing has been changed ! ???

It seems the DIR-655 is not so stable.

My setup using Android to control music streaming has been working for more than a year, though at that moment the setup is a bit different, that I used Android to control streaming on Foobar2000 (acts as both UPnP server and renderor) on my wired notebook.  It does not work since I upgraded the DIR-655 firmware.

P.S. I 'm located in Hong Kong.

What FW did you upgrade too?
After factory resetting the router, did you set up WiFi for single mode G or N or mized G and N?
Can you test with out any WiFI security and see if the Driod will connect to the server?
I would also set Endpoint Indendent on NAT under Firewall settings as well. Leave everything else as sis.

Seems like it might be working however if your wireless, something is interfering with the signal possibly.

I found the check box "enable Multicast Streams" is not enabled, re-enable it the upnp streaming cross wireless and wired network works again...  I 'm sure it has been enabled, no idea why it was disabled.
It is not stable, but at least I know how to make it work now.  Thanks for your help! ;)

UPnP is old technology and all the devices are within the LAN not WAN/Internet, wonder why it is so complicated to make it work, instead of just enable the check box "Enable UPnP"....
