What script to use for fan control?
« on: April 23, 2013, 05:44:47 AM »

Hi,

I'm running fonz fun plug 0.7 on my DNS-320 and would like to "make" something with that annoying fan. Could you help/recommend me the right script so my fan is not running so often (especially now when summer is near).

Just by running slacker -i I found 2 scripts with "fan" string:
uli:fanctl1-2-arm-1txz
uli:uwfancontrol-1.3-arm-1.txz

and there's thread on forum from Johny Mnemonic which should also be a solution
http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=6522
with modification to run from USB
http://www.sysadminsquare.com/nas/fan-c … b-support/

So my question is which script should I use? Are scripts from uli good for my DNS-320 or should I focus on modificaton from Mr. Mnemomic?

I would like to try fan control script before making adjustment to hardware. Thanks for help.

I use the second script, but I changed some things.
It is a shame to have to change things so basic.

DNS-320L firmware version 1.02b07
fun plug 0.7

Humm, I would have thought that during summer you would want the fan running more than in winter - that is unless you are prepared to cook your disks.

It never fails to amaze me the number of people that seem to get bad fans in their devices yet we have 6 DNS-323, 4 DNS-320 and a DNS-345 that are running without noticeable noise from the fans.  In fact two if the DNS-320s are beside me at the moment and I had to feel round the back to check the fans were working.  I don't think we have units that are out of the ordinary nor do our clients and of the thirty odd out in the field we have only had to replace one fan and that was because its electronics failed.  If any were noisy our clients would let us know in no uncertain terms.
