AC power adapter
« on: July 15, 2012, 02:46:05 AM »

Hello.
when moving device from one room to another my AC power adapter swiched off general fuses and is not giving out any power anymore (measured with tester).
I hope there is nothing wrong with NAS as power adapter should be easily replacable part - but reality is something different.

It is almost impossible to get 3A adapter. There are few 2A adapters available but I was warned by one electrican that the difference is big and can be important.

I'm already considering purchaseing 2 adapters (5V and 12V) and puting them together into one (which is like €40). Fixing is 35€+parts (app €40 again) and 212+ from Synology is 250€+VAT (can get refund).

So I really considering moving away from D-Link for good but if anybody could suggest where to buy or would be ready to sell me old adapter - I would buy it.

P.S. as usually - no help from D-Link directly, their answer was something like turn to electronics shops, they might be able to support me. After calling and visiting more then 10 of them - they are not.

A couple of things.  First, what country are you in - I assume somewhere in Europe because of your giving costs in Euros.  Second, what electronics knowledge do you have?

I ask the second because we have one of our DNS-323s running off an old PC power supply - we sold the correct power supply to a client that was desperate to have the 'official' PSU.

It might also be possible for you to obtain a replacement from Hong Kong or China - try googling the part number of your PSU and looking for replacements.

Edit to add;

ships worldwide.

Thaks you!
Can't find how many A's it has as most I have found on the market are 2A, but one (pretty smart) electrican said there is signifficant difference and I should not use 2A adapter if I don't want to buy a new one soon.

Anyway got the problem solved ATM - took it to repair workshop and they fixed it (for 32€).

They also commented that it has been designed in very bad way so that it is a miracle it took so long to burn out. Few parts are too close to each other which should be more distance.

BTW, the country is Estonia.

Yes there is a big difference between 2A and 3A as far as the equipment is concerned.  If you try using a 2A supply when the equipment needs more than 2A the supply will get very hot and fail as well as the equipment not working .

I'm pleased that you managed to get your power supply fixed.  That price is about what we charge for similar repairs here.
