USB connection problems!
« on: July 16, 2012, 05:56:35 PM »

Basically i bought a DIR645 Dlink amplifi router at the weekend and the USB sharePort will not work! I have installed the SharePort software onto the computer (i am using a fully up to date Mac book pro) but there was no USB menu in the internet based manual setup for the router.
I have numerous hard drives to plug in, of which only those NOT formatted for Mac are recognized but the rest are not (those i use for time machine.) Is this something i can adjust??
ALSO, of the ones that are recognized, none of them will mount in the software and i cannot see the files on the hard drive!?

Any help greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks
Dr.B

I think post #22 will help you resolve your issue.
What version of SharePort are you using?

Let us know.

SharePort PLus Version = 4.2.0R1

I cannot reformat the MAc formatted drive as they contain my automated backup files. But this does not solve the recognisable drives?? I can see them in the SharePort but i cannot mount the dive to access the files?

Is shareport mounting the drive at all in Finder?
I would review the Shareport Manual for instructions on how to access the files on the drive for OSX by opening up SP application and selecting the ? button then select Help. This will launch Safari and display the Help manual for SP.

I would try a drive that you can erase and format clean with OSX Journal or NTFS and test with a few files on it and see if you can get SP to see and then mount the drive correctly for you.

Try MS-DOS or OSX Journal. Do a clean format of the drive with out SP running. Put some test files on it. I would restart the Router and Mac after you connect the drive to the USB port on the router, then after everything is restarted, open up SP and test.

I just took a 1Tb Pre-NTFS formatted USB drive from my server and installed it on my 645 directly and connected to it using SP and when I connected i got the drive mounted on the desktop and it opened the window to access the files on the drive automatically.

I think you have to disconnect from SP first so it will remove the mounted drive from the desktop so you can reconnect later. I removed the drive from the desktop before I disconnected from SP and now I can't get SP to connect to the drive. Restarting the router now.

Heres what I'm seeing:

Now I notice I don't see a disconnect button on SP. It's grayed out. If I eject the mounted drive from the desktop and try to reconnect to it using SP, I get this:

I can't reconnect unless I power cycle the router and USB drive.
Using OSX 10.6.8.
This is a NTFS formatted drive USB 3.0 non major mfr USB case, so I'm not sure if I'd have the same results if formatted OSX Journal. Let me know if you see the same results on OSX Journal formatting if you can.

Sorry i gave up last night reformatting doing the power ciruit you mentioned did not work :(

So i see the top screen on the Share Port - like you with the gray'ed out dismount button, and the same error message on mounting.

BUT i do not see DIR-645 listed in my share folder at any point. I can only see the other computers which are sharing the network.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
