Setting up wireless for 4 storey school
« on: April 13, 2009, 06:07:22 AM »

Was requested to supply one AP with 13 piece of wireless adapter. Wondering whether a DWL-G700AP would do the job? Or do i need to get a Omni directional antenna so as to cover the outdoor as well as indoor and ensure that every corner is cover?

Lastly say if i just get a DIR-655 without a AP, would it work?

With a 4 storey building I actually doubt that you will cover all with one AP. Or it is build from wood only and does not cover a lot of square feet. If it is b a brick building you might need up to three of four AP's. I assume you want to do this as cheap as possible, but for really good coverage you might want to look at more professional solutions.

What EddieZ is trying to say is there is no way to get us enough information in this format to be able to make these kind of suggestions.  Anything that is provided will be a best guess.

That said for a 4 story building I would recommend you move to a more comprehensive (read expensive) solution.

You can always call out Sales team at 1 800 326 1688 ext. 5434 and they will suggest the proper equipment for the job.

I also would telling you contact the sales team.  This setup your are trying to do is definitely outside the area that most DIR routers would handle.

Agree'd. With a school and I can tell you from my own mischeivious experience, you will definatly want to look at more corporate solutions, probably one with built it certificate based authentication.

The University here, authenticates by MAC address and Certificate, which every student needing access need to register in person for.
