Wireless Laptop to NAS

Just sorted one problem and now im here with another.....

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms how to connect a wireless laptop to my NAS, everything Ive tried so far isnt working and I know its only my lack of networking thats getting in the way :)

Any help would be greatfully appreciated!

What exactly have you tried and with what equipment. To begin with - is the wireless access point/router present in your equation?
How are the pieces connected together (NAS supports only wired connection).

You should be able to connect via network in my computer depending what OS you have. Or you can use start run and type \\dlink or \\IP-Address (i.e. \\192.168.1.5 depending what you gave it ). You also need to create shares on the NAS once done you can connect to \\dlink\sharename or you could map drives so you have say a W: drive connected to the share - NET USE W: \\DLINK\share etc.

Have a search on google all will be explained.

D3m, a few questions.

Can your wireless laptop connect to the internet?

On your network, do you have a combined WiFi router or a separate wireless access point and router.

How are you trying to connect the two?  The laptop should connect just as your PC does - only difference is the physical method of connecting.

Have you checked that the firewall on the laptop is not blocking the NAS IP?

Without having a better understanding of what you have and how it is setup it is very difficult to even start trying to advise you what to do.  For example, we had a client that couldn't connect to his NAS by wireless but every time he brought his netbook in it connected to our public NAS without problems.  In the end one of our service engineers went to look at his setup - he didn't have a wireless router or AP, his netbook was connecting to the internet via the WiFi next door.  When we supplied an AP and set it up he had no more problems.  All this shows that as much information about the problem helps to leading to a successful conclusion.

If you are unable to connect to your not yet configured NAS on home network, then the D-Link Storage Utility will help you to do just that!
It should be on your CD that came with NAS (PC version) and you can download one from D-Link, esp if you're looking for a Mac version.
