I know this is old however in tearing down the boxee box, instead of trying to hack and slash whats already been done, why not connect the boxee box LAN port to a 5Ghz D-Link DAP access point?  ::) Might be easier. Is fun info here though.

One option, for the adventurous, would be to yank the WiFi card in the Boxee Box and put in a dual band card.
