Hi!

I just bought a 942L and it works perfect over ethernet cable.
I have trouble getting it to work over wireless.

Setting up the device to use wifi is no problem at all. I use a DIR-655 router.
Problem is the rate (Mbps) between router and camera. I only get 1 Mbps over wifi (100% signal according to dir-655) and a lot more using cable.

I've tried several different types of encryption but still that very low rate.

I can see a higher rate at the second the camera connects to the router but after 4-5 seconds we are down to 1 Mbps (starting at maybe 8Mbps)

I'm using the latest firmware on the camera...

Whats wrong?

What Hardware version is your DIR-655? Look at sticker under router.

How far away is the camera from the DIR-655?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

What wireless modes are you using on the DIR-655? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition,and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable or Disable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless and test each option.

Try accessing the camera feed in another browser tab, and then go back an check the transfer rate in the router's Wireless Status page (refresh it if it was already open). It will probably go to about 72Mbps or so.

How are you determining there is a 1 Mbps transfer when idle?

That's what the router shows under Wireless Status.
(There probably isn't any actual transfer at all, that's just the transfer rate shown.)

BTW, my post was not meant as a complaint or anything, I was just offering an answer to the OP's question. When there is no activity between the camera and the router, the transfer rate will show as 1Mbps.
When there is video transfer, it will jump back to normal rates.

One thing you can try is completely shutting down all browsers that access the camera. Sometimes, if you are watching a live stream via direct IP or through the Web UI and then enter another URL into the same browser tab, the process containing the stream keeps going (and pulling data) even if you are now on another web page. Completely shutting down your browser should kill any rogue processes.
