Ive had a browse on the net and through the forum. Unable to find a single review of the 2230.
Which do you feel is the better camera ? I know the 2230 is 2megapixel but reading through the forum im unsure if its worth buying over the 942.
Whats the recorded picture quality like of the 2230 please.
Thanks Paul
DCS-2230 is a full HD IP-cam with support up to 1920 x 1080 pixels (2 megapixel sensor) - full details at http://www.dlink.com/us/en/support/product/dcs-2230-2-mp-full-hd-cube-wireless-ip-camera
This is a video of DCS-2230 on Youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv47m0Y8X0k ).
DCS-942L is a VGA IP-Cam with support up to 640 x 480 pixels - full details at http://mydlink.dlink.com/products/DCS-942L
I have both IP-cams and I faced some problems on both cams, mainly regarding the firmwares.
Last DCS-942L firmware is 1.10.02 for DCS-2230 and 1.12 for DCS-942L.
DCS-2230 is a better product than DCS-942L, is more expensive than DCS-942L, logically it is not possible to compare photo and video quality as DCS-2230 wins all tests due to different sensor.
Also web management is better on DCS-2230, more options and better management of the cam hardware. For example on DCS-942L I still face problems with the night/day modes (infrared switch sometimes becomes crazy mainly during sunrise/sunset periods or when weather changes from sunny to cloudy or vice-versa).
With DCS-2230 I have not this kind of problem, with this cam I can even set power-on/power-off range time for the infrared switch via web management.
If you want to have an idea of the a/m cameras, you can also give a look to the Firmware Wishlist here in this forum to know the unsolved bugs and which are problems of these two cams.
About photo sent via email, just to give you an idea about photo and video sizes of these two different cams, one DCS-942L photo is only 21 kb, while on DCS-2230 we can have from 125 to 250 kb (according to resolution and infrared light) for each photo.
