Authentication Failed IE9
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:19:39 PM »

When I try to log-in to my D-Link DIR-835 Router using IE9, I get an 'Authentication Failed' error. FireFox & Chrome work just fine. Do you have any idea what I need to change or fix in IE9 so it will also log-in to my router?  Thank you.

Try using Compatibility Mode for IE9.

Please post any and all DIR-835 questions in the DIR-825 forums please.
Thank you.

Thank you for your response. Compatibility mode did not work. Also, IE7 & IE8 mode did not work. All get the Authorization Failed Error. This is a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. FireFox & Chrome are still logging in with no problems so it has to be an Internet Explorer problem. More ideas are welcome.

Are you hitting the enter key after you type in the PW or using the mouse and selecting the log in button?
Also is Java installed on this PC? Do there PCs exhibit this problem?

I have tried hitting the enter key & clicking on Log In with the mouse.

Java is installed on all of our PC's & updated to the newest version.

We have 2 Windows 7 x64 Ultimate PC's with IE9 & 2 PC's with XP Pro. All of them exhibit the same Authentication failed when useing IE8 & IE9.  Thank you for your response. More ideas are welcome.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Well your version of FW is out dated:
1.13NA   1/28/2010
Revision Info:
 Fixed: Correct HNAP issue.
Fixed: DNS relay issue ( WAN Slowdown )
 Added: Advanced DNS description

Might review the web site and see if upgrading would be the next step:
DIR-825 Rev A

I you choose to upgrade, please follow the upgrade steps here:
FW Update Process

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Did we forget here that I have the DIR-835 NOT the DIR-825?  Can you safely cross flash these two routers? Just want to make 100% sure before I do anything. Thank you again for your replies.  It is kind of confusing at times having to post in the DIR-825 Forum???

Man I guess I didn't have enough coffee yesterday.  :o My bad.

So looking again and this time getting the information correct, your router doesn't have any other FW updates at this time. No we can cross platform FW. LOL. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to be mis-leading. Wow. I messed this one up.

So I would for now, use Opera or FF to manage the router. I would send an email with detailed information to DLink and let them know there seems to be an issue with IE9 and that you've check compatibility modes and this is the only browser that seems to exhibit this issue. If you can get a hold o***ood tech, maybe they might push a FW update out to fix that if they can replicate your problem.

Other than this problem is the router working well for you?

Again, I apologize for confusing your model number.

Ok, thanks for your help. By the by, I cannot get the DIR-835 to log-in with IE 8 or 7 either, on windows xp or windows 7. Will check with tech support & see what they say. Thank you again. Oh, I also tried doing the Browser Reset in Options, Advanced Tab. No change.  At least we have Firefox & Chrome etc., so we can still get in that way...whew!

I was going to ask you about IE 7 and 8 as well. Good info on that. Please forward that info to DLink as well. Seems like there is a bug with any IE version and this router FW. Keep us posted on how it goes.

IE 7, 8, or 9 ... DOM Storaqe 'ON'.  I do not like DOM Storage, or Cookies. I always set Dom Storage to OFF on new installs of IE.  Now off to look for an addon that will absoutely erase Dom stuff when I log off of IE. I already have one in FireFox.  I would like a FirmWare update that lets me log in to my Dir-835 Router with IE, with 'Dom Storage' set to 'OFF'.
