DNS-323 loses Network Access Settings
« on: September 13, 2012, 08:30:41 PM »

I have a DNS-323 using Firmware 1.08. For the last couple of days when I shut down the NAS the Network Access Settings are lost. Even the default All USERS ALL ACCESS is missing. The users and groups and the other settings are remembered. I have reset the NAS back to factory defaults but the Network Access are missing again when I shutdown and restart. This happens even when the NAS is shutdown but it is still connected to the mains.

I have two 2Tb WD Green drives in RAID 1 configuration. Originally they were both WD20EARX-00ZUDB0 drives.
I just replaced one of these drives with a WD20EARX-00PASB0 2TB drive. The DNS-323 formatted the new drive and re-synced the new drive and reconstructed the RAID. The DNS status screen shows that the RAID is running without errors.

Any ideas why my Network Access settings are being lost?

Thanks

Since you are loosing your settings you could try doing a system reset using the reset button at the back of the unit.

Thanks for your suggestion ivan. I put the original WD drive back into the DNS-323 and so far the Network Access Settings are sticking. So the new drive may be causing the problem. I will leave the system for a while and see if the problem re-appears.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

What you describe is what we saw with one of our units when we had a disk fail.  Once the RAID was rebuilt we were unable to change settings until we used the reset button.  My conclusion is that some information doesn't get updated and that causes the problem.  The reset clears that information and allows everything to work again.
