Incredibly slow write speed
« on: May 21, 2013, 05:53:34 AM »

Hello!
I've encountered a serious problem with this NAS lately: I'm almost unable to write anything on it.
The NAS is connected through a gigabit switch to my PC and a router, I installed on it two 3 TB WD Red hard drives in a RAID 1 configuration.
I use it mainly with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS via NFS share, and the reading speed is always pretty good (around 60 MB/s).
Now I have less than 600 GB of free space, and gradually the writing performances of big files are declined: it rapidly transfers 300-400 MB of data, then it locks down for a few minutes, and when it starts to transfer again the writing speed drops sometimes to 40 KB/s or less...
(Sometimes even the OS freezes, but that's a known ubuntu-related bug)
I tried to run a scandisk, upgrade the firmware to version 1.01b03 and reset to factory settings, but nothing changes.
I even tried to use it on Windows 7 with Samba protocol, but I still can't write anything at a reasonable speed.
The same goes for FTP or web interface.
I can't backup 3 TB of data anywhere else, so every operation I try has to be non-destructive, but I have no more ideas!
Does anybody have any idea on what should I do? Thank you!

Maybe another way I can try to solve this is by breaking the RAID1 configuration and having two normal separated volumes, and see what's next. Is there any way I could do this without losing data from both hard drives?
