Wireless on a VISTA machine problem
« on: April 11, 2009, 05:40:28 PM »

First off everything works great and was a snap to setup. My problem is...(This is in secure WPA mode,  there is no problem in "unsecure" mode) My sons PC has Vista installed, I have XP.  He has a D-Link wireless usb adaptor. Prior to this we had a Linksys router that worked fine via wireless on his Vista.

Now what happens is... I right click the network icon in the taskbar and select "Connect to a network"  a list of available networks shows. I click our SSID and a different message appears than before, instead of getting the usual prompt for a simple passphrase, I get a "Windows needs more credentials to connect to this network" and then a window appears prompting for...

Username
Password
Domain pass

this is not an option suitable for the usual WPA Personal encryption, first off there is no user name, no domain, its just WPA personal, TKIP, passphrase... what can I do? like I said it connects fine if no encryption is used. and it worked fine lo these last 2 years with a Linksys WRT54G

(I and my wife have XP, router installed on mine)
(My wife has windows XP with a Linksys adaptor and it works fine so I know it is a Vista conflict)

DWL-G132. Using the Vista drivers not the D-Link Drivers/console that came with it. Couldn't get the thing to work at all when we installed it with the D-Link user consol/drivers but worked fine with plug n play drivers and the Vista consol. Like I said, it worked fine with the Linksys router, I would assume it (usb adaptor) would work with a D-Link router. I have it (router) set to "Mixed" b,g,n.

I tried logging on to some SSID's coming from around the neighborhood, only Linksys or I assume Linksys I can get the prompt for a passphrase, there are 2 other D-Link routers in the neighborhood and they all get the same weird pop-up asking for credentials rather than a passphrase.

Is D-Link not compatible with Vista? It says it is on their homepage...
