how to mount drive from dns-320 in windows
« on: December 25, 2012, 09:47:53 AM »

I've got two terabytes of data on my dns-320 which has two 2 terabyte drives configured as a raid 1.  I want to copy all that data onto a raid 5 on my workstation.  My dns-320 still works but it will take forever to try to copy two terabytes over the network.  I tried using ext2ifs to mount the drive to copy the data off it after installing it into my workstation but it failed to mount the drive because the inodes are 256 and extifs only supports inodes up to 128.

Has anyone done this sucessfully so they can quickly point me in the right direction to something that actually works.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to post to get some response?  Now I've tried booting into linx mint and it shows the 2tb hard disk but only shows a 524mb volume on it which holds a folder named ftp and a file named change_Nas_Prog_attr

I tried calling tech support but gave up after waiting on hold for an hour and a half or so.  I've also given up on moving one of the drives to the workstation and copying the data off it.  Now I'm copying the data off it about 100 gigs at a time  over the gigabit network whenever I get a chance.  It'll take a few days but at least I'm making progress this way.

Since the DNS-320 has an FTP server have you thought about setting up an FTP client on your workstation and using that to transfer your data overnight?  We have been doing that between our various NAS, servers and the storage centre for years without any problems.

I hadn't.  Sounds like a good idea but I'm half way done getting the data off copying 100-150 gigs at a time using explorer.  At this point I think I'll just keep at it.  I'm done setting up.  I'm just going to plug away at copying till I'm done and never look back.
