Help with Network Shares
« on: January 03, 2013, 11:57:31 AM »

Hi

I have Purchased a DNS320 and I am having some issues with network shares,

Reading the manual tells you to delete the standard network shares or the new ones you will create wont work, So I delete the standard share that comes set up and I created share to each folder for users I have set up,

For instance I have 2 users set up, we will say these are User1 & User2,
They each have they're own folder as well as having a shared & Media folder they can both access,
I'll give a couple of examples below:

\\DNS320\Volume_1\User_1 <- I assign this to a specific user being user 1,
\\DNS320\Volume_1\User_2 <- I assign this to a specific user being user 2,
\\DNS320\Volume_1\Media  <- I assign this in the network shares to all users,
\\DNS320\Volume_1\Shared <- I assign this in the network shares to all users,

Each user 1 & 2 has a user account set up on a windows 8 PC which connects to the NAS, I want each user account to have mapping's to the DNS320 so they can see they're own folder and the media & Shared  folders,

Now I'm using windows 8 and when I go into user 1 User account within windows and go to map a drive with User1 username and password I can create a mapped volume fine, Once this is done I can access all the files I want,

Now this parts the problematic part and I just can't figure it out, I have tried load of times with different ways and folders, I log onto user account 2 on the PC and try to map a drive using User2's username and password it does not accept the details, The login box just pops back up on screen, However if I use the credentials for user 1 it does work and maps the drive, It just doesnt make sence why I can only map a drive using the user 1 account for the DNS on the network share that is set up for user2???

If I log into the Dlink config page using user 1 & user 2 credentials and use the my files link they can both only see the files they are suppose to but when it comes to making this like this in windows it fails badly and I can't for the life of me figure out why

Is this something to do with the unix type permissions??

I know a few bits and bobs about windows but nothing about linux and having a nightmare setting this DNS320 up to work the way I Want it with the user accounts and shares

I have looked through alot of the FAQ's and cannot seem to find one that tells me what I need to do

Please Help??

Also to add to the above if I leave the default network share set up I can map drives using User account 1 & 2 but then I can map all folders and not ones that you have permissions set up so you can access them.
