Okay...
Right now... on my DIR-615
I have the default wireless setup.
I am using one laptop as a server that identifies itself on that system and defaults to port 80. I can change that if necessary.
The IP defaults to 192.168.0.100 as long as that is the first device to connect to the router.
Generally, the laptop that is being used as a client will default to the next available IP address such as 192.168.0.101. That client will "auto-discover" the server on port 80 or I can assign an alternate port.
What I am attempting to do is automate all other connections to be passed to the server so that when a browser is opened on any device that joins the open network, they land on the server page -- in this case, 192.168.0.100:80
The system already functions and has for almost two years. The problem lies in dynamic ip addresses for the first two computers (my system) and then all other devices having to re-enter an ip address for the server if the ip address has changed on that first laptop.
If my network guests attach to my wireless network at present, I have to disclose the correct ip address for the server. They will bookmark it and use it during that session. If they return at a later date and the ip address has changed, the bookmark is not going to function.
I don't want a web browser on my network to have any option other than that server, regardless of the ip address.
I believe that assigning static ip to the first two computers solves half the problem... automatically routing browsers on my network to the server solves the whole thing.
Why would I set up a virtual server when I actually have a server running on the network? There is no external access to this network, it is a lan without internet access.
Please bear with me... I don't understand why I would set the server in the DMZ if the router already passes clients along to the server as it is.
