DSR-500N with DWM-156 A3 3G modem
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:00:25 AM »

Hello!

I have just updated recently my DSR-500N router to the latest WW firmware - 1.06B53_WW, which has already 3G support.
I attached my DWM-156 A3 3G modem, which as per the latest Release Note supported by this router and the drivers are already injected into the firmware.
At the USD status pane I can see the 3G modem, the proper device information.
At the WAN2 setup page I set up the 3G internet access. pick always on, set up the dial number, the proper APN which is provided by my ISP. DNS is requested from ISP, and pick the encryption to PAP.
I saved it, looks everything good.
I checked in the WAN2 status, but I have no IP address, the Link is Up, but the network is down, once I made the failover, there is no internet access.
Is there any documentation or manual how can I set up properly the 3G on DSR-500N, can I use WAN2 for this, or is this working just on WAN1? Is there any limitation or known issue with this firmware or this feature?

Thanks,

Link>Welcome!

What region are you located?

Be advised that per the EU web site, the DWM-156 has been phased out. There maybe a newer model.

I recommend phone contacting your regional local DLink support office and ask about the DWM and operation with the DSR router. Ask for level 2 or higher support.

Hmm, this is tricky to troubleshoot without having access to the device for some trial and error. First some basic stuff.

Manual - See page 50-51 (assuming you haven't done so already)

Quotes:
"Once the connection type settings are configured and saved, navigate to the WAN status page (SETUP > Internet Settings > WAN Status) and enable the WAN2 link..." Is it possible WAN2 just isn't enabled?

Firmware release notes

Quotes:
"Before plug DWM-152/156 3G USB dongle in DSR-1000/1000N, please make sure the SIM
Card is Not set PIN code." I assume since new firmware gives DSR-500N DSR-1000N 3G capabilities, this would still apply.

As a general note, have you called the ISP and confirmed the settings? Or better yet, have you confirmed them working on another device?

Well I think I found two possibilities, WAN2 is configured but not enabled or the the SIM is set to PIN code which has to be disabled through the 3G modem utility software.

Hello!

Thanks for your comments.
Of course I checked the manual, I used to set up the 3g connection in the WAN2 Setup section.
Also I disabled the PIN code on the 3G modem, that won't be the issue here.
Actually I cannot remember, that I enabled the WAN2 on the WAN2 status section, I will check that, but probably I done it. Also I checked the firmware notes that it already has the necessary drivers for this modem. I'm conserning that I cannot see any status on the connection, if it is trying or not, release, restart, anything.
Currently I haven't configured the Failover or anything, I just wanted to check if the 3G modem can connect on the network or not.

Thanks, if I need additional help, I will let you know tomorrow.
