Cable Setup
« on: December 22, 2012, 04:53:46 PM »

???  AttentionWhat ethernet cable should I be using Cat5E, Cat6, patch cables or Cat5E, Cat6 crossover cable going from modem to D-Link 655 to D-Link DGS-1005G then to xbox.  Have tried both and get a good connection to start with then it's like my connection goes to s***.  Seeing most guys getting 3 shot kills and I have to unload a clip throw a grenade and still get killed.  My Nat is Open showing 10,000kbps with both cable patch and crossover.  My service provider is RR 30/5 tier.

I run CAT 6 all around. I recommend connecting the xbox directly to the DIR-655 instead of the switch.
If your xbox is the only xbox online at a time for gaming then QoS or Traffic Shaping may not be needed. If other devices are online while your gaming, then you might want to set up a QoS rule and group all those devices in a rule and set it to a low priority, then make one rule for your xbox and set it to a high priority. I also disable SPI.

Thanks Thanks ThanksThanks for the info,  FurryNutz.  What about cable type crossover or patch?  I'm going to go all Cat6.  So if I ran two Xbox should I just bypass the switch also?  Or take the switch out of line?  I have the rules setup and most of the time I'm playing without the wifi hogs  :D on my network.

You should only need patch cables. I would go directly to the router for the xboxes. You can still use the swtich for other devices however. If you need QoS rules, i would use one for the xboxes and use another for the other devices. Put that rule at a low priority while you put the game one at a higher. Should would well. Keep us posted.
