Questions about migrating from a DNS-323 to a DNS-320
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:03:00 PM »

After not quite 2 yrs, one of the slots in my in-laws' DNS-323 has gone bad.  Won't recognize any drive at all.  I'm considering replacing the DNS-323 unit with a DNS-320, but have a couple of questions:

1. Will the RAID volume from the DNS-323 work in the 320 or must I reformat and start from scratch?
2. How will the performance of the 320 compare to the 323?
3. Should I be considering something else instead?

TIA for your guidance/advice!

1. Will the RAID volume from the DNS-323 work in the 320 or must I reformat and start from scratch?

The word from D-Link is that the RAID structure between the DNS-320 and DNS-323 are different. At best, only Standard Volumes and JBOD are transferable. Although, if I were you (and albeit time consuming), I would allow the DNS-320 to natively format the HDD and then perform a data transfer.

2. How will the performance of the 320 compare to the 323?

3. Should I be considering something else instead?

The DNS-320 was recently phased out in favor of the new DNS-320L, which is supported by D-Link's new Cloud apps for remote access. The DNS-320L also has improved hardware specifications over the DNS-320.
