Secure DLink wireless router stops me from using range extender
« on: January 14, 2013, 03:07:05 PM »

Hi,

MY DLink DI-524 main wireless router blocks my Netgear wireless range extender when the DLink is secured with a password.
Otherwise when main router DLink is not secure, the extender works perfectly.

Help Please

Thanks

What mode are you using on the DI router? It's an older router so WPA and or WPA2 may not be available which is preferred for securing wireless. You maybe you will need a newer router to work with the netgear extender.

Ensure the netgear extender is compatible with the DI wireless and security options.

Hi,
I upgraded the firmware for the DLink and it's WPA2 now. It was WPA before anyway. Still no luck. I tried anything I could think of:
- Assign static IP with the Netgear extender settings
- Use different password for the NEtgear wireless access and for the DLink wireless access
- Enabled/Configured DHCP
- Use same then different security mode for each machine
- ...

Still the same problem. No Internet when the DLink main wireless router is secured. I'd really like to keep the DLink because it has served me very well until now. Very sturdy machine and still working ...

Thanks for any help

Does the DI now support WPA2 AES and TPIK? Try setting up for WPA2 and Auto AES and TPIK. You might try TPIK only. Also as a test, disable the WiFi security on the DI router and see if the NG extender can connect then. If it doesn't, then I might presume there is a problem with the NG. Do other devices connect to the DI router?
