Remote Desktop in Windows 7
« on: November 15, 2009, 08:16:41 AM »

Has anyone been able to configure this router to allow connections from the internet for remote desktop?  I can do it on my lan, but the Dir-825 blocks this feature.  Yes, I set up port 3389 as a virtual server to the computer I wish to use.

here is the setup for it.  I'm assuming that you have set up the remote computer to accept remote connections, and set the firewall to allow remote connections. If you are connection from outside your LAN, you are going to need a fixed IP address.

I was having trouble getting Remote Assistance working in Windows 7 but I found a solution.  I don't know if this will help you or not.  I have the DIR-825 and the remote computer is behind a DIR-655.  We both switched the NAT Endpoint Filtering to Endpoint Independent for both TCP and UDP and we were able to connect.  It seems the default settings cause the router(s) to act in a 'symmetric NAT' fashion and Remote Assistance can't deal with it.  By changing the settings, the router(s) behave in a 'cone NAT' fashion.

If you still have trouble you can alway use TeamViewer

At my acknowledge that the only one who is able to get across  router smoothly

No special router setting to have a great remote connection and it's free

i have VNC going and teamviewer no problem, but still no RDP.  unfortunate too, because RDP works so much more smoothly than the others.

ink>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Have you contacted RDP to see what or if they can offer any help or resolution?
