If your roommate has his own connection using a Modem/Router combination that includes WiFi, It's probably at least 2.4Ghz. How far away is this modem from the 655? What channel is this modem using on WiFi? This could be a source of interference along with all the others. If you saw a similar issue on the 524 and now your seeing it on the 655, seems that something else is going on here.

No storms, brownouts, or anything like that. The issue just came out of the blue. Happened sometime between 9:30 and 11:30 pm on Wednesday (can't remember exactly when). Here's the thing, I have an old D-Link DI-524 which worked many months ago, and which has been kept in a box since then. This works for a bit, before dropping back to an old connection, and then back to factory settings, without any input. This one has been doing that since I took it out, the day after the DIR-655 started having issues. My room mate has his own connection for work, on a modem/router combination, and that wifi works just fine. It's a Sagemcom F@st 2864, and I have no idea if that's a 2.4 or 5 GHz (looked in the manual, looked it up online, can't find that information).

My room mate isn't using my routers, he's aware of the issues and has tried helping me. I've used many different SSIDs for these, none of them with the same name as one of the other connections in the area. My roommate's modem is about 20 feet away, and he keeps the wifi off for the vast majority of the time, as it interferes with his work connection. It was off when the issues began, and has only been turned on a few times so I could use it when my connection was down. It's been there for a few months, and I haven't had problems with my network until the last few days.

I recommend that you go to the store that has a refund policy or check out an on-line e-tailer and get you a 5Ghz AP and upgrade your PC/Laptop with one of the following and test 5Ghz out:

D-Link DAP-1513, 1522, 1525, 1533 are for use in 5Ghz AP mode.

DWA-160, DWA-162 and DWA-182 for upgrading on PCs and Laptops.
