Wireless speed drops from 300 Mbps to 130Mbps
« on: February 20, 2013, 01:54:33 PM »

I have a issue, my DIR-615 V.E3 has been working good.  I have multiple computers connected and all get between 280 and 300Mbps.  But then after a few hours the speeds drop to 130Mbps on all computers.  After I reset the router the speed returns to 300Mbps.  I have it set up to run on N speed only so g devices are not connecting.

Any idea what the issue is, am I loosing one antenna?

Thanks,
Jay

Link>Welcome!
What region are you located?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

yes we have cordless phone and another router on the g network, while this one is set up for only N.  Don't think they are an issue since I can get the 300 speed when the router reboots but after it has been going for a few hours then it drops to 130.

The wireless mode is is 802.11n only.

Is the other G router online at the same time as the 615? If it is, make sure it's operating on a different channel.

When you are viewing the status window, are the PCs that are connecting at 300Mb are they idle or actively doing something? Are the PCs showing 300Mb connections or 130Mb on the network status on the devices?

The g router is online at the same time as the 615 but at different channels.

The PC are active when they connect both at 300mb and the PC are showing that status.  Only after an hour or so then the PCs show the 130Mb and they are still both active at that time.  Both computers do become idle at some point but neither have a sleep mode active.  I have come back to the main computer and seen both the 300Mb and the 130Mb at different times.

Aslo prior to the 615 I had a trendnet N router and never had this speed issue, with the same computer set up and the g router online at the same time.

What version is currently loaded on the 615? v510?

I would do the following:
1. Download the only E3 version available here: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir615_revE/Firmware/dir615_revE_FW_510NA.zip (copy and paste link into browser.)
2. Disconnect the WAN port from the ISP modem and connect only 1 WIRED LAN PC to the router.
3. Perform a Factory reset from the routers web page under Tools/System.
4. Send the .bin file using Tools/Firmware.
5. After the FW file has been sent and the router comes back to ready, do one more factory reset using the routers web page, reconnect the ISP modem cable to the WAN port, then set up the router from scratch and set up some of the suggestions mentioned in my first post to you.

Let us know if this helps
