Slow Wlan Speed
« on: March 05, 2013, 08:01:52 AM »

Hi there i run the Dlink 645 A1 1.02 and im experiencing some prob.
1 week ago i had a 32MBits conection and everything worked well, all speedtest were ok via Wlan(20-30Mbits).
Now i got 100MBits connection and i get a maximum of 30Mbits... most time 20Mbits.
Other then my Upload, i get 5Mbits out of 5Mbits.

Here some Detail:
i run a new laptop with integrated 150Mbits card.
the difference on air from router to laptop is 3meters, 1 wall between.
if i connect via lan i get full speed.
MetaGeek Insider 2.1 says: RSSI -52 and its the best Wlan in my Area
it uses channel 11 like 3 other routers with -80

Why Router dont automatically switch on channel with no router in area? i see many free chanells.

Do u think buying a new 300Mbs card can resolve the problem?

Windows tells me my connection is 72MBits, so only 1 channel 20Mhz.
but isnt 20-30MBits much to less for that speed? i iknow its theoretically... but i am the only client and connection is excellent.

edit: today i saw that connection status of windows is switching between 58Mbits and 65MBits

What can i do to reach at least 50MBits in Speedtest?

thank your for your help and please excuse my english.

Hi there i run the Dlink 645 A1 1.02 and im experiencing some prob. What region are you located?

1 week ago i had a 32MBits conection and everything worked well, all speedtest were ok via Wlan(20-30Mbits).

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
If others are using channel 11, Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?

Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Why Router dont automatically switch on channel with no router in area? i see many free chanells.
Upon power cycling the router, it should scan and connect to a new channel if the channel is already being used, however you can manually set channels to something thats not being used.

Do u think buying a new 300Mbs card can resolve the problem?
Only way to find out if you need a new Wifi card would be to check the 645 with another device. See what a different devices does when connected to the 645.

Windows tells me my connection is 72MBits, so only 1 channel 20Mhz.
but isnt 20-30MBits much to less for that speed? i iknow its theoretically... but i am the only client and connection is excellent. Try setting the routers WiFi to Single Mode N, WPA2 only and AES only, and 20/40Mhz. What are the connections speeds seen on the router Status/Wireless page?

edit: today i saw that connection status of windows is switching between 58Mbits and 65MBits

What can i do to reach at least 50MBits in Speedtest?
Some speeds tests over Wifi are not accurate if tested with WiFi since there are many factors that contribute to inaccurate results. Only wired testing over WiFi is recommended.

edit: i changed

- to N only
-manual channel
-i set 20Mhz only
-switched to WPA2/WPA(auto) with AES(only option)
-deactivated GI

Router says 11n 65Mbps 50% Signal
Win says 65Mbps and excellent Signal 5/5
MetaGeek says RSSI -50 MaxRate 150

Speedtest shows 30Mbits Down and 5Mbits Up

so nothing really changed

edit#2: LAN i get 100Mbits Down and 5Mbits Up

What happens using same settings accept change 20Mhz to Auto 20/40Mhz?

I would test with a different Laptop or device and see what you get. Results may vary. If you are getting 100Mb on LAN then at least LAN is good and it tells me the router is working on the Wired side of things.

Getting a bit better.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Ensure the WiFi adapter drivers are up to date for this laptop.

After this I would test other devices or a different Laptop or find a USB Wifi adapter like one of DLink DWA models and see if it improves anything on this one Laptop. I'm thinking the Wifi on the Laptop maybe limited at this point.

Let us know how that USB adapter works with the current settings, you should see 300 Mb on the Status/Wireless page on the router.

I connected the USB Adapter same settings and i get this results:

Windows: 130Mbps 3/5
Router: 103Mbps 48%
Speedtest: 30-60Mbps heavy jumps up and down

my integrated card got better signal :S so i went near to router with USB and i get 90-100Mbps in speedtest

but i want that speed in my room... its only 3m through a wall -.-
i get some wlan 10meter somewhere up in house with better signal sometimes!!!

so i need new wireless card for my laptop i guess... my signal is strong so a 300Mbps card should handle this

Hope it all works out for you. Seems like you need a new WiFi adatper for the LT.

Good luck.
