I can ONLY connect at 150 mbps max
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:05:32 PM »

I upgraded to v2.10NA hoping to solve my slow connection problem. I had NO problems with the new firmware, but I still have the problem. I can ONLY connect at 150 mbps max, and I dont see any indication of channel bonding even though I gave it my best shot.

Link>Welcome!
What region are you located?
Has a Factory Reset been performed both before and after the FW update?
Was it working before the FW update?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What wireless adaptor or devices are you attempting to connect at 300Mb?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only for 300Mb connections. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Some devices do not supprt 300Mb connections. Please refer to the Mfr of these devices to see that they officially support for connection speeds.

Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I upgraded to v2.10NA hoping to solve my slow connection problem. I had NO problems with the new firmware, but I still have the problem. I can ONLY connect at 150 mbps max, and I dont see any indication of channel bonding even though I gave it my best shot.

What device are you using for your wireless clinet?  Sounds like 150 may be the max that it can use for throughput.

Thanks for the suggestions. A few of them I did change, but most of these settings I already had.

First, I DID do a reset on the router before the firmware upgrade.

Next, on the client side I am using the same Atheros ARb97 that has sucessfully connected at 300 mbps with 2 other D-link routers i had.

I changed to wireless mode N only
I already was using AUTO 20/40 mhz for channel bandwidth. I dont have an option for a 40mhz channel, just Auto.

I changed to a manual channel selection and selected channel 11. no one was on it.I turned off Short GI (even though I dont know what that is)
There are only a couple of other networks active here now.

I always do use the WPA2 security with AES encryption

I have the same house phones I always have had and they are hardly ever used. They never seemed to be a problem with previous routers.

The unusual thing is that when I first unboxed this router, and connected it, it connected at 300 mbps for about 24 hours, then the connection was totally unpredictable.

I REALLY APPRECIATE the suggestions and information, but I just dont know what else to do. I considered your suggestions the ultimate advice, and now I am just stuck. But I love this router because of the USB port which I run my printer from.

Do you have any other devices to test to see if the 655 and a different device will stay connected at 300Mb?

SUCCESS!!
As I mentioned I didnt have any luck with the settings, most of which i was already using.
So I went back to teh MIXED wireless mode, and the Auto Channel detection, I also enabled Unpnp but one thing i left the way you suggested wre the firewall settings.

I restarted the  router and it still only connected at 150.

But then I wondered if there is any kind of cookie or something saved on the CLIENT side.
So I rebooted my computer and connected at a full 300 mbps and its been running like that for about 14 hours now. I even had a 2 hours SKYPE session tis morning, watched some videos etc.

Thanks so much for your suggestions because SOMETHING made the difference. I believe the firewall settings are the major things I left changed to your suggestions.

Awesome. Glads its working for you. I recommend that you save off the routers current configuration to file for safe keeping.

After that, you could try setting Single mode N, WPA2 and AES only and test again. I'm wondering if somehow your PC and adapter got stuck in this mode and by rebooting and clearing what ever that was out, helped everything get reset. IT should connect at 300Mb in Single Mode N with AES only as well.

Enjoy.

SOLVED.  the problem apparently was a BAD DIR 655 router.
I returned it and purchased a different brand. It immediately connected at 300 mbps, and broadcasts on the 2.4 and 5.0 bands simultaneously.

I had 2 D-link routers before the DIR655 and had no complaints about them. But after this frustrating experience, I dont think I will buy another d-link. NO ONE here was able to help me solve the problem, in fact no one even offered any sensible suggestions.

Adios D-link forum.....

So what you your response #5 was incorrect?

Seems like this issue was not entirely troubleshot and information was not correctly either followed or given leading us to believe that this is not a HW issue with the router.

Sensible suggestions and information was given, doesn't seem like it was followed well. This is a user configuration issue.

This issue is now closed.
