USB Port Not recognising Disk
« on: March 05, 2013, 05:52:52 AM »

I have a maxtor 500GB driver mounted in a casing with its own power supply and usb cable. It works with any of the PCs in the house and is recognized immediately on windows XP/7/8
I have purchase a DIR-645 and in solving problems with the wireless signal dropping out I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version.

When I plug the USB drive into the router noting happens.
I have tried, changing from NTFS to FAT32 - No difference
Rebooting Router - No difference
Connecting the disk to the router after it has booted

In the Network menu there is no device listed.

A usb key works in the router.

I am at a loss what to try next and welcome any thoughts

Thanks in advance

Is this a custom case? Possible the custom case isn't compatible.

After router is at the ready, connect USB drive, power off the router for 10 sec then power back ON, does the router see the drive? Does the LED on the drive flash any while the router is booting?

Review the router logs for USB entries after the router gets to ready. If you don't see any entries, then I presume there is a compatibility issue here. Not all custom cases meet USB standards.

Thanks for the suggestions,

It may be that it is only for this disk/router combination but it seems the order is critical.

Disconnect disk
Start router and allow to come up
Connect disk
Access disk

If the disk is connected before startup it isn't found.

Thanks
