Hello,

owner of a new B1 here. I've seen various recommendations for 2.03 as a firmware, as mine came with 2.04. Why is this recommended? Is there any others that are recommended?

Additionally, after connecting up to the router via ethernet (192.168.0.1), the control mechanism for the router is rather slow. I've owned many routers, and this might be the slowest administration/settings page i've seen for a router. Is this normal?

Seeing a slow web page on the routers UI is not normal. What browser are you using ? Try Opera or FF? Same thing?

We've been seeing a few bought routers with this v2.04 however it's not been released on the web site nor is is posted anywhere.  ??? Mine came with v2.00 which ran great and stable. v2.03 is also great and stable. v2.07 breaks Shareport and theres a beta v2.08 however exhibits abnormal network behavior.

Check cable between PC and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended. Some inbox cabling isn't made well.

I'm using Chrome.

I'm also using the same cables I've had for years, at the minute. I haven't had any issues with them, using my old router.

I'm going to try downloading v2.03.

Even thought cables are probably good or worked with your last router, I highly recommend getting new. Cat 6 cables are a good upgrade and inexpensive from places like deepsurplus or monoprice. Also offers best performance and operation and help in knowing you have good cables.
I would use IE, Opera or FF for using the routers UI. Seen some issues with Chrome.

Let us know how v2.03 works for you.

I, too, am seeing delays in the web interface.  There's a delay every time I click for about 4 seconds.  Like it's doing a DNS lookup and timing out or something. (DNS server is set correctly)

If it was layer 1 I'd have interface errors.  The cable's fine.

My DIR-655 Rev A was really snappy.  One of the fastest consumer router interfaces I've used.  My DIR-615 is fine.

This was the same on 2.07 and now on 2.10NA.

How long are these delays?
Was a factory reset performed before and after the FW update was sent? Using any previous saved configuration files?
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

About 4 seconds.  Network and firefox are working fine.  No, I didn't zap the settings.  That's a total PITA and one of the things I dislike most about this device is it sometimes does that itself on a firmware upgrade.  That fact alone makes it difficult to recommend it to people, even though I like the radio in it a lot, and it does Guest SSID (add VLAN tagging and it would totally rock).

No, I don't run a software firewall here.  We're behind a Sophos UTM/Astaro.

No, I am not going to turn off all devices while testing.  That's another completely useless, household-disrupting PITA.  I'm gigabit wired to it anyway so it's not the wireless.

I'll try a reset/config restore though.

Actually, looking at it further, it's only over https, no delay over http. Wonder if OP was using https too.

I would expect to see a delay if your using HTTPS.

I don't use HTTPS for managing the router nor should it be needed.

A factory reset and test the routers web pages right after before restoring a saved configuration file would be a good test.

For doing FW updates, the following is highly recommended and works well:
FW Update Process

Good Luck.

I wouldn't expect a delay.

I expect the light_httpd in the router is doing an RSA key exchange for every new event instead of caching it.

If https isn't needed, why is it there?

I believe if encryption is available, it should be used.  If you're going to implement it, do it and do it correctly.
