DCS-932L Mail Setup
« on: July 25, 2013, 06:59:55 AM »

Hello...
I have been trying to set up my mail settings to no avail.  I have searched the forums for a possible answer but have not been able to find anything that directly addresses my problem.

I know for a fact that the information I am putting into the mail settings are correct and I have tried to set it up using different mail accounts.  However, when I run the "test" I only get a message that it "cannot connect to SMTP server."

Other times I get a message in the status page that says "testing..." but it hangs there.  In fact, I have left it like this for 10 or 15 minutes but it doesn't change.  If I do a refresh it again gives me the "cannot connect to SMTP server."

An example of the information I am using in the setup is:

SMTP server address: smtp.mail.yahoo.ca
Port: 25
Sender E-Mail address: my name@yahoo.ca
Receiver E-Mail address: my name@yahoo.ca
User Name: My user name - have also tried complete email address
Password: My password

As I said... I know for sure that these are the settings needed for this account because I looked them up.  These settings actually work with another software for another webcam I have used in the past.

I'm really hoping that I can get some help... it would be very much appreciated!!!

Thank you for the reply... however I'm sad to report that your suggestion didn't work for me.

I went to gmail and even changed my password so that I would have a fresh one to work with.  The message I'm getting now is:

user name/password incorrect

I really do know that the user name and password I'm trying to use is in fact, correct.  I've checked it a number of times just to make sure.

Thanks...

This is grasping, but can you try clearing your browser cache to make sure some legacy values are not being sent. I've seen circumstances where an extra space that was saved in the browser cache generated issues like this.

Thanks for the cache suggestion but unfortunately, it didn't change the situation.  I'm still getting the "invalid user name/password" message after running the test.

Another problem I also have is that when I try to use the motion detector in advance setup, the video screen reports an error message... it tells me that I am missing the "aplug.class" file.  Funny thing about this is that it will work fine immediately after I update Java.  But when I return to motion detector setup I get the error message. Very strange... very frustrating to say the least.

Thanks...

As a test, you may want to try another email provider as a reality check that everything is working.

Hi again...

I have tried your suggestion of doing the test on another email provider (Yahoo and my ISP) and come up with the same results.

I have also tried it with Firefox (my default browser) and IE.

I did notice that at times when I go into Status after clicking on Test, I get the message "testing..."  it is here when it just hangs.  If I do a refresh it goes back to the "incorrect user name/password" message.

That being said, I get a "certificate error" message at the top of the window.  If I click on this message another box comes up.  This is what it says:

Gereral Tab

This CA Root certificate is not trusted.  To enable trust, install this certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store

Issued to: D-Link
Issued by: D-Link
Valid from 2/5/2010 to 2/4/2015

Certification Path

D-Link

I'm not sure, but maybe this could be my problem?  If so, is there any way to correct it?
Just putting it out there.

Thanks,
Bobby

Hello again...

I am at a loss for words as I try to tell you that the problem I was having pertaining to my email configuration has suddenly disappeared.  Everything is working fine now.

I don't know what was causing the problem because I'm positive the info I was entering was correct.  In any event, I'm just happy to have it running!!!

Thanks,
Bobby

We'll chalk that up as an unsolved mystery. Another possible cause is your router, but no way to tell what happened unless the issue recurs and you troubleshoot.
