Upgrade/replacement suggestion
« on: March 22, 2013, 08:03:47 PM »

I currently have a home network using a D-Link WBR-1310 router that has passed it's end of life. I would like to upgrade to a router that will handle Apple products seemlessly - i.e. iphone, ipad, etc. I would like both cabled and wifi connectability for future expansion.
The WBR came with software - Network Magic - that is now assimilated by Linksys.
I would like a product that has good home network software available to manage the interconnectivity of the devices on the network.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have a current or future need for 5Ghz WiFi or have any devices that use 5Ghz WiFi now? If you do, then I would recommend a DIR- 8 series class router. Has both 2.4 and 5Ghz radios. If you don't have a need for 5Ghz then the DIR-6 Series class will do as they only have 2.4Ghz radios.

I'm currently using the DIR-826L and I find it's a very nice router. Great range and I like the new design of the case which come from the DIR-645, which is a good 2.4Ghz only router. The 856L is also a great router. IT's the flag ship for the Cloud series. New routers are coming out this spring, DGL-5500 for gaming, DIR-860, 855 and 850.
I have give a couple of reviews:

Do any gaming or video streaming or just general internet usage?
What is your price range for making a purchase?

Be advised that any 3rd party networking software like Network Magic is no longer needed and can usually introduce problems and slow performance on networks. ALL DLink routers run well with out any additional networking programs and would only reduce the performance.

All the routers listed in my profile I have personally tested and have used. ALL are great routers.
