Large Transfer issues with DIR-655
« on: January 05, 2009, 05:38:01 PM »

Hello,

Real newbie here.  I have had this router for months now... And I running into a issue.

PC1 windows xp sp3

PC2 Windows Server 2003 sp2.

Sitting on PC1 I mapped a drive on PC2.  And I tried copy a 600 meg zip file to PC2.  Its gets about 1/2 done and it just stops, transferring.  I love my internet, on PC1 I cannot view my network places.  Tried my wireless laptop no internet.  The DIR-655 locks up to the point I need to unplug and plug back in.  Both accounts on PC1 and PC2 have admin rights.  Smaller files seem to work fine.

Hardware Version: A3
Firmware Version: 1.10

sort of leary on upgrading the firmware since I have never done that before and I dont want to kill it...

Any help or suggestions would be great.....something to at....and such..

Get 1.11 or 1.21, you won't break anything. Very slim chance of that nowadays  :D Have a little faith, there's not much you can do wrong (besides loading a beta version that is)
1.11: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Firmware/dir655_firmware_111.bin
1.21: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Firmware/dir655_firmware_121_no_securespot.zip

Sounds to me as a Windows networking issue. Please provide the router logs that show disconnections, if they're not there: have a look a your Windows networking config.

Do you have wired or wireless connection? If wired, do you use 1000 mbps with a different jumboframe setting?

Hi PorkChopExpress,

As Eddie Z says, upgrading your Router's Firmware is no biggy, especially if you follow the onscreen instructions.

Is PC1 or PC2 wireless?

This might be a windows problem.......But its a wierd one......Both are wired, and nic's and router manually set for 100 full.

What I'm seeing is that when coping windows errors out, with "cannot copy file-path too long" after the I lose the internet and the ablility to browse the network.  And it never comes back.  I need to power off the router and turn back on to get it back..  Its only been copy files from XP Pro SP3 to Windows server 2003 sp2.

Hi PorkChopExpress,

Copy the file-path you are using. Your Computer name is part of the path.
Use the Address Bar in Windows Explorer for easy copying of the filename.
